The Better Ways to Work survey was designed to understand how commercial office buildings are managed and maintained in Australia.

Buildings that are maintained function better, making them better for the facilities managers and contractors who work on them, and better for the tenants who work in them.

The survey aimed to capture the experiences of those working on the ground and in the plantroom. Questions were asked about the organisation of work in the sector, how the building stock is configured, workload and maintenance practices, issues encountered in maintaining buildings, and workforce demographics. We were most interested in the experiences of those who work on older, smaller and poorer quality buildings, which represent ~85% of Australia’s commercial building stock.

Who completed the survey?

Facilities managers, building services contractors and other allied professions working on commercial office buildings right across Australia.

Survey Results

The survey closed in October 2020. Responses to each question can be viewed on the interactive dashboard, which allows the data to be manipulated by role type, state and geography.
